Hey there friend, hope you’re doing good! Today I want to talk about something that might interest you if you’re thinking of buying a car — the Tata Nexon. I’ll keep it simple, as if I’m just one normal guy sharing what I found and what I feel about this car. No heavy jargon, just straight talk.
What is the Tata Nexon?
So brother, the Tata Nexon is a compact SUV from Tata Motors that’s been quite popular in India for some years now. It’s designed for Indian roads — a bit higher ride height, good ground clearance, decent space for family use, and not too big so it fits city traffic. Do you know it’s very special or unique? Because this model manages to offer quite a lot of features and safety in its price range.
Design & Looks
When I first saw the Tata Nexon in our town showroom, I thought: “Wow, this car looks solid.” The design is attractive — bold front grille, distinctive headlamps, good presence on the road. The ride height gives you that SUV feel without being too huge.
Colour options
There are quite some colours available as well:
- White
- Red
- Blue
- Silver
- Dark shades like Grey or Black
When the sun caught the red one in the evening, it really stood out — kind of made me look twice.
Engine & Performance
Now friend, let’s talk about what’s under the hood. The Tata Nexon comes with different engine options: petrol, diesel and even CNG in some versions. For example: the petrol is 1199 cc, the diesel is about 1497 cc. In terms of power: the petrol version gives around 118.27 bhp and torque 170 Nm. What this means in real life: When you drive it in the city (ours included), it has enough punch to overtake slower vehicles, negotiate traffic, and you don’t feel you are struggling. On the highway, you can keep up and it doesn’t feel under-powered. Of course, it’s not a sports car, but it does everything you need with comfort.
Ride & Handling / Practicality
Brother, this is where the Tata Nexon gets interesting for everyday use. With a decent ground clearance – around 208 mm according to specs. So those big potholes in our town won’t be too scary. It has a 5-seater capacity, so you can take family, gear, all good. One real-life example: A friend of mine in our locality took the Tata Nexon for his daily commute + weekend drive. He says it “feels stable on curves, rides fairly smooth in city traffic, and on the highway you feel safe”. That’s the kind of reassurance you want.

Mileage & Running Cost
So friend, the cost of running matters. The Tata Nexon mileage will depend a lot on engine type (petrol vs diesel vs CNG), how you drive, traffic etc. Official spec gives a range: around 17 kmpl in some conditions for certain petrol/diesel. In our town with mixed traffic, I’d estimate you’ll get somewhere around 15-18 kmpl maybe in petrol if you drive normally. If you do highway runs with diesel maybe better. But yes — you should expect some usage cost.
Features & Safety
Brother, the Tata Nexon scores well in features and safety (which is important!). For example:
- It has good boot space (~382 litres) for a compact SUV.
- It comes with multiple drive modes, good infotainment, AC vents, etc in higher trims.
- Safety: the specifications list things like ABS, EBD, multiple airbags.
Do you know it’s very special or unique? In many compact SUVs, you might compromise on safety or build, but Nexon gives quite a strong package in its category.
Price (in Our Town)
Alright brother, now the money part. Price is always a big deal. The Tata Nexon ex-showroom price in India ranges broadly depending on the variant. For example: starts around ₹7.32 lakh and up to about ₹14.15 lakh for certain trims. In our town, once you add RTO, insurance etc, the on-road price will be higher. So if the base model is ~₹7.32 lakh ex-showroom, on-road maybe around ₹9–10 lakh (just a rough guess). For higher trims it could touch ₹15 lakh or more. You’ll want to check with a local dealer.
My Honest View
So friend, here’s what I personally think: If I were buying a car today for mixed usage (city + occasional highway), the Nexon would definitely be on my list. The reason: you get good build quality, safety, space and decent performance.
However, some points worth thinking about:
- If you mostly drive in heavy stop-go city traffic and budget is tight, maybe even a hatchback would serve better in running cost.
- If you ride with 4 adults + luggage often, higher trims make more sense.
- If you’re very fuel-cost conscious, check the engine variant carefully (diesel/CNG may be better in the long term).
Pros & Cons
Pros:
- Strong build and safety
- Good looking design + presence
- Flexibility of engine options (petrol, diesel, CNG)
- Comfortable for family use + decent ride height
Cons:
- Cost of higher trims becomes quite high
- Running cost not as low as smallest cars
- If you live in very narrow lanes or have tight parking, a smaller car might be more convenient
Final Thoughts
So brother, to wrap it up – the Tata Nexon is a very sensible, well-rounded compact SUV in our market. Whether you are using it daily in town or taking it out on weekends, it gives you comfort, safety and good features. And the price, while not ultra-cheap, is pretty fair for what you get.
If I were you, I’d say: Go to a dealership, sit in one, take a test drive around your usual routes in our town (traffic, narrow streets, etc) and see how it feels. If you’re comfortable and the price fits your budget, it’s a strong buy.
Thanks for reading my thoughts. If you decide to check it out or even buy one, do tell me how you felt after driving it — would love to hear your view!
